Dr. Serena Turner

Dr. Serena Turner grew up in Kansas City and knew she wanted to be a vet when she was 6! When Serena was 13, she came to shadow Dr. Roy Davis at Red Bridge Animal Clinic, when it was still located in the shopping center! She was instantly enthralled by being in the clinic and that first Saturday shadowing turned into her first job that lasted for 12 years!

All through high school at Sion and over breaks during 6 years of college at the University of Missouri, Columbia, she was able to work at Red Bridge, doing nearly every job EXCEPT being a vet! When it came time to go to work as a vet in 2001, she found a wonderful opportunity to work at Fairway Animal Hospital through a previous Red Bridge associate, Shelley Thompson. For 16 years at Fairway, Serena gained tremendous experience and had the opportunity to practice high-quality medicine and surgery in a progressive and fast-paced 6 doctor practice amongst an amazing group of people. In that time period, she was married in 2001 to Brian Turner, and they have 3 children, Nora (11), Cate (9), and Elliot (7). They live in Brookside and belong to Visitation parish, where the kids also go to school and are all actively involved.

The Turners have 9, technically ;), pets: Shaylee and Iris (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels), Chloe (Long haired chihuahua), Slick and Uptown (domestic shorthair cats), Harry the Guinea pig, a beta and a ghost shrimp, and a horse, Louise, who currently lives with Grandma Lora in Springfield, Mo, but will hopefully come to KC eventually!!

Brian and Serena are working towards creating a farm on their 5-acre property outside of Swope Park where they can eventually have 2 horses. Her interests include vet med :), gardening/farming, animal care and petsitting, watching kids sporting events, playing and coaching volleyball, being active in her school and church, keeping up with a 108-year-old house in Brookside, pet therapy for people.

Serena is so excited to be back to where her veterinary career started and to work with so many of the same dedicated and devoted people! Her veterinary interests include internal medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and dentistry. She enjoys solving tough cases but really loves to cuddle young healthy puppies and kittens too 🙂
